WP 614 is a wood cupola car that was built in 1937 by the WP Jeffrey Shop forces in Sacramento. It was converted from a 1916 era Pullman Standard outside braced wood boxcar. The early boxcar conversions like the 614 are referred to as "Canyon Cabooses" since the inset ends provided extra shelter for crews when working in the poor weather frequently encountered in the Feather River Canyon. WP 614 is part of the collection at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, CA. Image was taken in the mid 1990s at Portola, CA.
