WP 483 was one of 6 cars (481-486) built by the International Car division of Paccar in 1980 as an extension of Southern Pacific's order for C-50-9 cabooses. These were the last steel cabooses built for the Western Pacific (as the C-50-9 cars were for the SP) and were practically new when the UP/WP/MP merger took place in 1982. These cars were classified by UP as CA-18 cars. The 484 wasn't retired until 1988 after being out of service and stored for about a year in Stockton, California. After retirement, Union Pacific generously donated the car to the the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, CA. The 484 was recently reunited with sister caboose WP 483 when it was received in Portola in a trade with the Western Railway Museum at Rio Vista Junction in Suisun, California. The first 3 images were taken in the early to mid 1990s. The last two images were taken August 5, 2006 shortly after the car was repainted in Portola.
