Captive Caboose - Western Pacific 456 |
WP 456 was part of a 35 car order built by International Car Company in 1955 and 1956. These were the first steel cabooses on the Western Pacific. Although not visable in these photos, this car was a bit of an oddball in that it had the thick "Clarendon" locomotive style numbers on the bay window rather than the normal "gothic" style numbers other pre-S-2 rebuild (1980s rebuild program) cars had. The 456 was retired by Union Pacific in 1985 and sold for scrap but was later acquired by the The Cherokee Heritage and Museum Association for the Cherokee Museum in Cherokee, California where it sits today. Images were taken July 16, 2004. |
