WP 449 was part of a 35 car order built by International Car Company in 1955 and 1956. These were the first steel cabooses on the Western Pacific. The WP was merged into the Union Pacific in December 1982 and these 1955-56 426 class WP cabooses became UP CA-14 class cars (except for 458 which had been wrecked in the 1970s and removed from the roster). In June 1984 UP painted the 449 armor yellow along with 7 other WP cabooses. It retained its WP reporting mark and original number. It was stored in Stockton by August 1984 and retired by Union Pacific in 1985 then generously donated to the Carson City Railroad Club in 1986 for display at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, Nevada, where it arrived in 1989. Images were taken on April 16, 2004.
