Captive Caboose - Union Pacific CA-5 unknown number
(click on thumbnail for larger photo-opens in new window)

This is a UP CA-5 steel cupola caboose which is evident by the combination of riveted construction, toilet window placement and the cast roof walk end bracket. I have no idea what the exact identity of the car is and it does not appear on any captive caboose lists I have. It is located in Torrance, California as part of the South By Grill at 23805 Hawthorne Blvd. According to the owner of the restaurant, he has no idea what the heritage of the railroad equipment is there since he bought it from the defunct Victoria Station chain who built the restaurant in 1974. Foresnic research narrows the possibilities down somewhat since few CA-5 cars were off the roster as early as 1974 but research continues. Images were taken April 19, 2007.
