Not to be confused with the present day Norfolk Southern Corporation, NS 387 belonged to the original Norfolk Southern which was merged into the Southern Railway in 1974. NS 387 was built from an old boxcar by the NS Railway shops in 1937. The caboose was donated to the Town of Spencer in 1976 and later to the State of North Carolina in 1986. It has been restored in the last paint scheme of gray with red stripes and is currently on display at the North Carolina Museum of Transportation in Spencer, NC. Images were taken on October 11, 2006.
