Captive Caboose - Missouri Pacific 13878 |
MP 13878 was one of many (350) "shorty" bay window cabooses built by the MoPac in 1977 and 1978 in both their DeSoto and Sedalia Shops. These cars are often mistakenly referred to as transfer cabooses due to their short bodies and long platforms. But they were all true road cabooses and assigned as such when in service on the MP. The 13878 was generously donated by the Union Pacific Railroad to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, CA. It still has its original paint and is a favorite of riders of the museum's caboose trains which run spring through fall. |
