CGW 601 is currently painted to portray its condition circa 1956 with the maroon paint scheme and the 36" 'Lucky Strike' herald. This car was built by PullmanStandard for the Chicago Great Western as part of a group of 25 cars between 1945 and 1946 and they were commonly referred to as 'Eastern' cabooses. After the Chicago & North Western assumed control of the CGW, the car was eventually painted C&NW yelow/green and renumbered 10500 but it retained the CGW reporting mark.

This caboose is part of the collection at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois. More information on the car and the restoration can be found here. Images taken June 11, 2006
